Keep your eyes on the target (by Gill Umair)

Every 20th of a month we try to write something about our students. This is a second article in the series written by our student. Gill Umair is our typical student: smart, energetic, entrepreneurial. Gill took several sessions with Anna, and after reaching his goals reading goals continues to be mentored by Lev. Gill is not only a talented engineer, but also a very active life coach helping people around him reach their potential. Below is his article.

Winners never quit because they believe that they can win!

A statement from Denis Waitley that really stuck with me is this: “The most important single point in the chapters to follow, to remember and internalize, is that it makes little difference what is actually happening, it’s how you, personally, take it that really counts!”

Choose to be happy

What is happening in the world around doesn’t matter that much, what really matters the most is how you react and how you process what’s happening. The choice whether to be upset – or not – lies in your hands. Basically, it’s mind over matter. People who win at life usually do not let the negative things get in the way of their happiness and their ability to succeed. Despite – and in spite – of everything, successful people choose to be happy.

According to Waitley, in order for us to be happier in our life, we must have self-confidence. A way to boost our self-confidence is to make an inventory of our personal strengths, the blessings we received, our accomplishments, and our goals. This is a really good exercise because it helps us see, with more clarity than ever, the things that are happening in ourselves and in our life.

Know yourself, especially your strengths

Knowing our personal strengths and achievements is a great boost to the self-esteem. Counting our blessings makes us realize that there are so many good things that we must be thankful for. Again, happy people are not always thankful, but thankful people are happy.
Having a clear sight of what our goals are keeps us focused on what we want to achieve. Distractions will always be there, but when you are driven by your goals, nothing will keep you from achieving them. These things will make us winners in life.

Keep your eyes on the target

Winners are goal-oriented people who know what they want and work hard to get it every single day. “For every one of your goals, make a habit to repeat again and again, “‘I want to—I can,’ ‘I want to—I can.’ Develop a simple, new affirmative self-talk vocabulary about yourself,” Waitley said.
Be consistent and have a clear target. Keeping a journal will also help you focus on your goals.
Having a clear target means really knowing what you want and where you want to be in the future. Goals should be realistic or else you are wasting your energy trying to achieve something nonexistent like perfection. Your motivation is also important. Why are you doing this? Are you doing this for yourself or are you trying to impress others? I say, go for the former.
“The most readily identifiable quality of a total winner is an attitude of personal optimism and enthusiasm.” Believe that you can be a winner and just be positive. You can do this!

Everyone faces difficulties. Everyone gets frustrated. It is important to believe in yourself and push yourself a bit when facing challenges.
Jonathan often talks about the amount of willpower it took him to master subvocalization. I did not believe I could master the skillset and practiced simply due to my love for Anna (do not tell her). Do not give up.
Thousands of students already became superlearners, so you can definitely join them.
