This post was invited by Jonathan. The question is very simple: how does superlearner methodology help in standardized tests, like GMAT? We have anecdotal statistics showing that the superlearning students improve their test scores significantly, over multiple criteria. Time management, language skills and problem solving abilities score higher. Below are some explanations.
Language skills
Many standardized tests require students to remember many rare words. Over time speed-reading a lot of material exposes students to more words that their peers. The immediate gain however comes from memorization skills: using visual markers you can remember much more words and much faster, so you can study from a prep book more efficiently.
Time management
Many students get stressed during standardized tests feeling that their time is running out. Not being able to finish a section is rare, but not being able to check yourself is commonplace. Speedreading gives you much more time to actually solve the challenges you are faced with and find the correct solution.
Attention to details
When your retention reaches 85%+ mark, your attention to details is much higher than that of your peers and you will be more likely not missing the details that change the formulation of your task.
Creativity
All this fuss with visual markers and their linking enhances your creativity. You will be more likely to find a creative solution.
Working memory
When you link and chunk a lot of markers you improve your brain’s working memory. There is scientific evidence of high correlation between efficiency of working memory and IQ measured by psychometric tests.
If you have less than one month till exam, it is not clear is superlearning is right for you. If you have more than 3 months you will be making a mistake not to take this path. Moreover the skills you learn here will help you later on in your life.
